Mystery Man

Was it the memory of living in a haunted house that I took with me when I moved abroad? Or was it the sense of déjà vu on arriving in Switzerland? Certainly the sense of mystery was never far away.

Above all, it was probably living in a region with a chequered history, when the border was a danger zone, and trying to cross could even get you killed. This place, packed with heroic and mysterious stories where I made intriguing discoveries and met some fascinating people in my work, is what brought my creativity alive and inspired my first adult fiction, The Dark Frontier. With this, the “Hemingway trait” was well and truly established.

Long stays in Turkey gave inspiration for a further novel, Flowers from the Black Sea, published in March 2024, which is likely to be the first in a series once the current project is completed.
